Vision Health

Healthy Eyes, Happy You

Yearly eye examinations are recommended because many health problems show signs and symptoms in our eyes first. Early detection and treatment of conditions helps prevent any further health or vision complications.

Conditions that affect eyesight

Glaucoma

is a disease that affects our peripheral sight first and causes blinding if left untreated. Eye drops and surgeries help prevent sight loss if diagnosed in time.

Diabetes

can have sight-threatening complications if left uncontrolled. Annual exams are necessary to watch for these complications.

Macular Degeneration

is a disease that affects our central vision and is now more than ever treatable if diagnosed in time.

Cataracts

usually occur with aging and cause cloudiness of the lens inside the eye.
Yearly exams allow for early detection and monitoring.

Common health problems with ocular signs and symptoms

An eye exam allows the optometrist to help your physician detect different health problems, including:

High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Stroke,
High Cholesterol, Diabetes
Thyroid conditions, Myasthenia Gravis
Multiple Sclerosis
Arthritis

Being aware of symptoms and signs helps detection

It's important to alert your optometrist of any of eye-related symptoms. Schedule an exam if you are experiencing:

Flashes of Light and Floaters
Headaches and Dizziness
Double Vision
Eye pain
Redness or Irritation
Blurred Vision

What type of insurance do you accept at Optix?

We accept many plans including: VSP, NVA, Eye Med, and Medicare. Please call to see if we accept your insurance.

Do I need an appointment to pick out glasses?

No, just stop on by. Only visits requiring you to see our doctors need an appointment.

How often do you get new frames at Optix?

We’re always updating our extensive collection to bring new lines and styles to Milwaukee from all over the world.

How often should I have my eyes examined?

Our doctors recommend a yearly eye exam to check for changes in your prescription and to evaluate your eye health.

Do I need to have my eyes dilated at the exam?

Dilated exams allow our doctors to see a larger part of the retina and help diagnose certain eye diseases and health problems. Our doctors will recommend dilation if they feel that it is necessary during your exam.

Do you carry non-prescription sunglasses at Optix?

Yes. We have a wide selection of designer non-prescritpion eyewear, and any of our frames can be made into non-prescription sunglasses.

Will one pair of glasses fit all my needs?

Our doctors may recommend glasses for different needs, including: computer or near vision, distance vision, sunwear, multifocal or progressive lenses. Many of our patients have multiple pairs of glasses to fit different styles as well.

What type of contacts do you fit and carry at Optix?

We carry trials of all major brands of contacts and our doctors fit the contacts based on the need of each individual.
